Prepare Him Room

** Hi friends! This post is part of a blog hop for Advent. At the end of my post you'll find links to some wonderful blogger friends who want to help you prepare Him room. Take some time to read them all. They really changed my heart and they will change yours too. **

When I started thinking about what to write for the theme "Prepare Him Room" it took me about a half a second for "Love Languages" to enter my mind. Specifically the "quality time" love language. (If you've never read those books, please please check them out!) And then my brain went to an unfortunately sad place -

My Body is Going Rogue

I turned 52 four months ago and my body is staging a coup.

It reached a crescendo last week. I realized that my normally favorite bra was suddenly irritating the tar out of me and constantly needing readjusted. It wasn't too old and it wasn't stretched out and it was fine probably the day before. I figured I must have gained 10 pounds over night. But then the suddenly

Here is the Church; Here is the Steeple…

I'm a preacher's kid and when I was around 5 - 8 years old we lived in a house connected to our church.

That might sound like torture but I absolutely loved it. For one thing, we moved there from a smallish city home and I was in awe the size of this one. It had three stories of huge rooms and high ceilings. And it was old and had all these very cool features I had never seen. I was enchanted. So it was a combination of a little world to explore + playground. It was like one of those dreams where...

10 Life Truths I Remembered During My First 10 Mile Race

About six years ago, before I ever dreamed I could run more than a few steps, I volunteered at a new 5k/10 mile race near my house. A high school senior from my church created it for his senior project requirement.

I can’t remember what my responsibilities were before or after the race but I remember that during the race I was to stand at an uphill section at about the halfway point and cheer on the runners.

When they started coming past I remembering being caught off guard and …

I Despised the Thought of Running This Morning

This morning Hurricane Joaquin was in the air and I had a ten mile run on my schedule. It’s six weeks until my first half marathon and I’ve been following this training plan that Bill developed for me. I’m already a little bit behind in my training because of a bunch of travel, old running shoes that caused some tweaked muscles which I had to rest, and also running a 5K and 10K with Bill that have become our summer traditions, even though they fell on days when I was supposed to be running longer.

So I really couldn’t postpone this 10 mile run.
